About The Lamason Family

The Lamason family has been synonymous with the seafood industry for over three decades. The family pioneered the tuna fishing industry off the coast of Cairns with their original fleet of 13 boats and are renowned for their quality seafood and personal customer service. Our sustainable, wild, and fresh produce is sold nationally and globally, including in the lucrative Japanese export market, and has become a well-known and trusted brand.

The seafood industry in Australia is massive, and our waters are incredible and highly governed by the Australian Fisheries Management Authority. Traceability and accountability in Australian waters are flawless, which drives us to ensure Australians consume Australian seafood, and that the industry lasts.

We want to bring a whole new range of customers in, and we want to find out if they are confident with cooking seafood or do they need help and what we can do to get more seafood on their plates.

About our other Little Seafood ventures

We also have a sister brand called Little Tuna which we started six years ago, first as a side hustle, but the demand quickly turned into another business. Preserving Tuna started because Rowan was sick of not being able to buy Australian sustainably caught seafood. All the preserved tinned Tuna available was imported and did not support the Australian fishing industry or families.

We knew we could sell our preserved Tuna and, as a result, started to get our feelers out in the industry and had conversations about the possibility. As conversations turned into deals, we knew we were onto something good not only for us but for the whole Australian fishing industry. These days Little Tuna is not so little. The product is sold online and stocked in over 130 locations.

About Rowan Lamason

As the son of a tuna fisherman, fishing was always in my blood.
I started fishing when I finished high school in 2002. Ten days after graduation, I was out long-lining for tuna. From there, I spent a few years on deck learning the ropes, getting my skippers tickets, and taking the helm of my first boat in 2006. Learning about and protecting the environment we worked in was a source of enjoyment for me, especially since it ensures a better future for my three children. My favourite fish to eat has always been Mahi Mahi; however, as a fisherman, I love to catch Bigeye tuna, which feeds at night when the moon is high in the night sky.

About Kate Lamason

I’m a busy mum of three beautiful children and love our active, busy lifestyle. I am also passionate about the Australian Seafood Industry and positively representing women in a male-dominated industry. The Australian seafood industry is one of the cleanest, most sustainable, most accountable fishing practices and one of the best in the world. I’m proud to say Cairns Little Seafood Market has a strong drive to support the Australian seafood industry. In particular, the topics that are most important to me are sustainable fishing practices, Australian business, healthy living, and minimal waste.
